Welcome!

Thank you for visiting the Birds of Forbes NSW project.
In this year, 2020, the Forbes Arts Society has secured a grant to build three more bird hides at the Gum Swamp Wetland. These bird hides form part of the wonderful Sculpture Trail which meanders for many kilometres from the centre of the township of Forbes out along the road to Condobolin. It will eventually meander for over 100kms.
This project is to discover how many species of bird can be found in and around the township of Forbes. When particular birds are present, and the breeding and feeding habits.
With several Travelling Stock Routes surrounding the township providing ideal habitat for many bush birds, Lake Forbes and the Lachlan River and the Gum Swamp Wetland providing habitat and breeding grounds for many waterbirds and free 48 hour stopover available at Wheogo Park, Forbes is an ideal destination for bird lovers.
Please upload your photos of birds in and around Forbes, NSW and they will be included in this project and expand our knowledge and understanding of the bird life.

New Species

Thanks for visiting the Birds of Forbes Project!
I am enjoying finding new, to me, species in Forbes all the time. I have identified 72 species though four have not been added to the project as they have not been confirmed by other users.
Yesterday I was excited to photograph my first Blue Bonnet Parrot!
Today I was very excited to see a small flock of the vulnerable Superb Parrot in the travelling stock reserve on Calarie Road. My excitement was increased to find a Black Swan on Gum Swamp.
I have been watching the progress of two Australasian Darter nests on Gum Swamp since mid January and the three chicks are doing well.
Please do upload your observations! They are all important and help collate information about our bird life and let us know how our birds are doing!

Regards
Cheryl

Just getting the hang of the features here!

Thanks for visiting!
I am uploading photos of the birds I find here in Forbes NSW. My photos are captured in various places in and around Forbes, The Gum Swamp which has a bird hide, with three more scheduled to be built in 2020, though may be delayed due to covid19, The travelling stock reserve off Calarie road enter opposite School Road and explore the many tracks, and various places around Lake Forbes as well as various places along Lachlan River.
I also post photos to the Birds in Backyards Facebook Group and seek help with identifying birds at Australian Bird Identification Facebook Group.
Since moving to Forbes in 2019 I have encountered many birds for the first time in the wild and it is a splendid feeling to see bird such as the Cockatiel flying free when I have only seen them in cages. My recent sighting of a Black Swan on Gum Swamp was exciting too. However there is little to compare with grand majesty of the White-Bellied Sea Eagle or to catch the coquetish expression of the Australian Kestrel at rest.
I am enjoying my birding adventures and hope to make this journal more useful soon.
Regards
Cheryl
