The herbarium at the San Diego Natural History Museum houses a large number of plant voucher specimens. For some plant species, there are hundreds of specimens. For others, there are very few. This observation is of a plant in the latter category. The herbarium has only two voucher specimens of Lupinus shockleyi from San Diego County, both of which were collected over 75 years ago. Fortunately, each observation of this plant recorded on iNat is contributing to our knowledge of the current distribution of the species.
