Juvenile Quadrula sp., 16mm This shell shows the beak sculpture and small pustules typical of the more quadrangular Quadrula from the lower Guadalupe River. None of the shorter, orangish forms of Quadrula aurea from this collection site showed these characteristics.
We found this old shell on the river bank of the Rio Grande. But have no idea what kind of mussel it is.
Saw four of them at the outlet works at LLELA. My son and I watched them for about 15 minutes; we saw them diving and catching fish.
