This trout was located in Calabazas Creek at Wilcox HS in Santa Clara following heavy rain and after the water level had receded to less than a foot. The creek is a concrete lined channel at this point. Estimated length is 14"
Large, dead salmon-like fish seen upstream in Waddell Creek.
Steelhead bycatch
Fry, about an inch long. Both Steelhead and Coho Salmon are possible in Pescadero Creek. Not seeing any spots in the dorsal fin in these.
Big fish - near 24" long. Post-spawning? Was floating belly-up just offshore, and thinking it was dead, I pulled it in with a stick to see what it was and take a photo. Then noticed it was still barely alive, so I pushed it out into the deeper water. It swam a bit, but then started doing the belly-up again. Didn't get a photo, but the other side was much more beat up, with lots of white rubbed-off patches.
My second time catching this specific individual. Identified by spotting pattern on back and adipose fin. Naming it “Martin” because it fell for the panther martin twice
