Field Notes - Found in sea salt water
Sea fan observed on the Stavronikita wreck near Carlisle Bay Barbados. Was hoping for help with a more precise id.
Snorkeling
These Chitons were found stuck to rocks near the water. Each chiton was about the size of a pink eraser that you could buy at a store. There appear to be eight plates on the chiton, but they might have some underneath that we can’t see. The plates almost looked marbled in a way. The plates had many different colors such as; light brown, dark brown, white, and black. Their foot goes around their whole body. It would look like a slug if they did not have their plates. The foot has a few different colors, mostly it is speckled but there a few solid colors. The foot is speckled grey white and black, and the solid color was a patch of black. As you can see in the photo both chitons are surrounded by water. They have to live in water to survive, they were in a water filled crevice.
