Found attached to a rock in a tidepool..not sure what this is even at the phylum level
Found as an epiphyte on a Gracilaria sp. Host was found growing attached to a rock at water line at low tide.
Found attached to rock in water near low tide at approx. 1:25pm.
An epiphytic species was observed growing on some of the branches.
Found attached to rock near low tide at approx. 1:21pm.
Found near low tide in water attached to rock at approx. 1:20pm.
Found as drift just before low tide at approx. 1:30pm.
Cystocarps are present. Credit to Bridgette Clarkston for the microscopy images of the cystocarps.
Found attached to rock in higher intertidal range at low tide.
Field ID: B320-JF-LQ-KZ-9
Growing on: Drift
Tidal zone: Found in the upper intertidal zone as drift
Time collected: March 30, 2024 at 4:30pm
Abundance: Scarce, only one found
Nearby species: some Ulva
Specimen reproductive: no evidence of reproduction found
Distinguishing characteristics: Plant erect and branched into branches (not lobes). Plant thin. Sequencing needed to identify to species level. Last photo shows the specimen dried.
Field ID: B320-JF-LQ-KZ-11
Growing on: small rock
Tidal zone: low intertidal/upper subtidal

Nearby species: Acrosiphonia, Ulva
Abundance: Not abundant, few individuals found
Specimen reproductive: no evidence of reproduction found
Distinguishing characteristics: Broad, flattened, but thick blade that grows in a cluster. Single blade is longer and wider than the stipe. Red-purple to brown colour and iridescent in water.
Field ID: B320-JF-LQ-KZ-10
Growing on: drift
Intertidal zone: Collected as drift from the mid intertidal
Time collected: March 31, 2024 at 5:30pm
Nearby species: Ulva, barnacles
Abundance: Not abundant, few specimens found
Specimen reproductive: no evidence found
Distinguishing characteristics: Thallus composed of succulent, ‘noodle-like’ cylindrical branches that taper towards their tips (apically) and towards their branching point (basally). Tapering best visible in photo 1. Dark red/reddish-brown coloured seaweed.
Field ID: B320-JF-LQ-KZ-12
Growing on: a boulder
Intertidal zone: low intertidal
Time collected: March 31, 2024 at 5:15pm

Abundance: Very abundant
Specimen reproductive: no evidence found
Distinguishing characteristics: Reddish colour, blade is a smooth, thin, translucent, frond and is delicate. Epilithic. Ovate shape. Photo 1 attempts to show that the blade is 1 cell layer thick (cross section was twisting and turning).
A group of non-filamentous, upright brown tubes that are shorter than 50 cm. These individuals are shorter than 50 cm, are not mucilaginous, and constricts along the length of the tube at intervals.
