The evidence of rust appeared within the last week as I inspected the plant recently. There is psyllid damage on the South side which I was about to trim when I found the rust.

I didn't think the North side was infected but on closer inspection both sides of the hedge have rust and the same hedge variety 10m away has rust. These plants were purchased 7 years ago with a plant label of Eugenia Ventenati. I believe these are Syzgium Australe, but clearly not a rust resistant variety. Apart from the psyllid damage the plants were healthy but did have quite a lot of new growth from summer trimming.

Adjacent to these hedges is another a lilly pilly (5m high/30m length) which has been planted for longer than we have been here, maybe 15-20 years. I think the variety is Acmena Smithii. I found 4 leaves with the first evidence of rust (Dark maroon marks) but the majority seems unaffected.

My Manukas, Pohutakawas and Guava currently have no evidence of rust.

I have sprayed all lilly pillies with Kiwicare PlantHealth Spectrum to hopefully slow the spread. I will remove the infected damage as per mpi instructions and monitor the progress.
