Cockroach Bay butterfly count organized by John Lampkin. My group in the morning was Don Fraser and Clint Gibson, but John split us up at Schultz. John put me with him, Rob Epstein, and Kylie Wilson. The weather at the start was sunny, 95 degrees ("feels like" 108!), and breezy. We walked and drove west while other groups went north. As with the other sites today, butterflies were scarce, as were most other invertebrates. I found a small section of beach that was loaded with tiger beetles; there were >50 in 12-15 square feet! We left around 1445 and Clint and I headed to Cockroach Bay Road for my lifer Obscure Skippers!

Cockroach Bay butterfly count with Don Fraser and Clint Gibson. Not much was happening, although we found a Statira Sulphur nectaring on Sea Grape. We also found an active Gray Kingbird nest in the southern parking lot. The weather at the start was sunny and 94 degrees ("feels like" 104!), with a light breeze. We left at 1248 and headed to Fred and Ida Schultz Preserve to meet up with the other groups.
