I am a Research Ecologist with US Geological Survey. While I am focusing on bobcats in urban settings with the "Backyard Bobcat" project on iNaturalist, I also study the behavior and conservation of other wildlife. For my PhD, I followed spotted hyenas in Kenya, and learned about their movements and habits in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. I grew up in Dallas, Texas, and have been very interested to learn from iNaturalist about mammals that people are seeing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I never saw a bobcat when I was there and don't remember hearing any reports of them. It's interesting to be able to compare the recent observations of bobcats in Dallas to those in Southern California where I now live, and to see the other place people are encountering these spotted felids.
