Wounded juvenile bat. Talked to animal rehab specialist, decided it was too injuried on wing with fly larva growth to rehab. It was left on the hemlock pine tree bark to its own devices and nature.
This was a bonus picture of a bat that was perched outside of my apartment for a good week or so, a couple of months back. It was eery but also cool to see one up close.
flew into a window and was dazed on the sidewalk, relocated to a bush
Biologist on site confirmed identification.
please note I have repeatedly received pre-exposure rabies vaccines and have more than 25 years of experience handling bats as a professional. This healthy little bat was roosting under an outdoor deck umbrella. I moved it to a sheltered spot on a tree. Do not handle bats without professional training and appropriate vaccines.
Removed from a home and released.
I wasn't able to get a clear shot of the face. By the time I got to the tree where it had landed it was gone.
