Lost duckling found at the South State bank I frequent for work. The locale is known for Muscovy ducks to roost. Admittedly, I panicked because its mother was nowhere in sight and seems to be separated from its siblings. Bank staff took it in to avoid it being run over in the parking lot.

Very small but fast. He seems scared but curious. He had tan and white fur. He was hard to follow and photograph but almost seemed excited to find whatever he was looking for! I wondered if he was cold or how the changes in weather were affecting him. Was this affecting his food supply or home. Since everything was covered in dead pine needles I wondered how this affected the course of his daily life! Since I couldnt get a good enough photo of him here is my drawing!

So fiddler crabs are attracted to blacklights too... (or maybe they like the insects on the sheet)

Blacklighting on the open trail in the Deering Estate North Addition Preserve. I had two sheets set up and this one was facing the mangroves near the end of the trail. I had another sheet set up more towards the beginning of the trail facing some remnant saltmarsh habitat. I was using cheapy DJ blacklights powered by USB battery packs (the kind used to charge phones). To learn more about the lights used in this setup, see here: https://www.inaturalist.org/journal/damontighe/11836-diy-moth-light

My son picked up an egg and said “Daddy look at this!” As I was looking it no joke started to hatch. Live, healthy baby green lizard. The photo is about 30 seconds after it was out of the eggs. Within a minute it jumped off my son’s hand. Pretty thrilling for both of us.
