This project is to both survey the presence of butterflies and their host plants in and out of gardens in Sonoma County and to compare survival rates of eggs and caterpillars inside and outside of gardens. The 1st field season will be from October 25th 2016 to May 19th 2017. The focus will be on The Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor), anise swallowtail(Papilio zelicaon), and echo blue (Celastrina argiolus) butterflies. In the fall and winter we will catalog the locations of the host plant then collect data on the eggs and caterpillars once the breeding season begins in late winter/ early spring. menos ↑
