Memorial Park Bioblitz 2014

Join us at Memorial Park in Loma Mar (9500 Pescadero Creek Rd.
Loma Mar, CA 94021) for a grassroots, smartphone-powered bioblitz to catalogue every living species we can identify!

We will increase knowledge of the species within our park and increase our knowledge of birds, redwoods, and other plant and animal species found in the park...and celebrate Memorial Park's 90th year!

Bring your smartphone and/or a camera, your curiosity and tons of enthusiasm. We’ll rally some experts and folks who know the area. Together we’ll make some great discoveries, get to know these places and each other better!

A Bio-Blitz is an intensive one-day study of biodiversity in a specific location, bringing scientists and volunteer citizen-scientists together. Together, we’ll look for snails, birds, salamanders, frogs, butterflies, spiders, flowers and everything else we can find!

People of all ages and skill levels are welcome!
Bring your smart phone for sure.
Bonus: camera, binoculars, and magnifying glasses.

We’ll enter observations in iNaturalist and join together at the end to find out how many observations we made and how many species we found.

Past blitzes in Oakland, San Francisco, and San Mateo County have averaged 1000 observations and 200+ species each. Hooray!

The fun starts at 9 AM Saturday. We will blitz for three hours and then meet up around noon at the Pescadero Store, just a short drive away, to go over our finds!
