THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Well done Cape Town!

Thanks to our 247 observers, our 389 identifiers, the 2,367 species and the support teams, families and relatives who took part in the 2020 Great Southern Bioblitz!
You are stars!

To the conservation agencies and staff that opened up our reserves for free access, and took part so enthusiastically, we salute you.
To the Friends Groups, the CREW teams, Botanical Society members and guides and other groups that informally coordinated events, got out and did it, and helped with identifications, our deep gratitude: it would not half as much fun without your tenacity.
And a special mention to the individuals who went out of their way, the extra mile, the highest peaks, the deepest reefs (and who tracked down someone who had observed the African Penguin during the event when we discovered that we had dipped out on this iconic beast) - we presume that you got your kicks during the bioblitz itself, but thank you too.

This was quite a different even to the City Nature Challenge. But over the next few weeks we will be looking at the two approaches and deciding on a way forwards. Should we participate in both events? How should we manage our resources between the two? What are the relative benefits, costs and potentials, and what are the alternatives?
Thank you everyone for providing such great information and a benchmark for considering these issues and going forwards. Please feel free to let us have your thoughts on these issues.

Thank you Cape Town! The Mother City of Biodiversity. We rock!

Dont go away: keep enjoying and recording our nature: we will be back!

And if you have any doubts about the data collected being of any value, SANParks - Table Mountain have just extracted a copy of all the data - delayed to include the Great Southern Bioblitz 2020 data - for an analysis of distributions of species on the Cape Peninsula for a climate change vulnerability assessment - cutting edge science from cutting edge data!!

This is citizen science at its best!

Thank you @tonyrebelo for marshalling us, it was tremendous fun. I even recorded a mammal.

Let me know when you're rested and ready to do the wrap up webinar, I already have Garden Route on board :)

Thank-you Tony and all the patient identifiers!
And well done Garden Route!

It was fun and the weather just upped the challenge!
It was a very different experience from the City Nature Challenge
If there is capacity and enthusiasm to do both, perhaps we should try to do both in 2021 given that 2020 was a very different year.

Congratulations Cape Town. Big Brother lived up to its biodiversity reputation once again!

We (southern Cape CREW) much preferred the spring bioblitz to the CNC and there is appreciation for the extended upload ID time.......when the due time was dicovered eventually ;-). The Garden Route is still somewhat under resourced and two full on events a year might be too much for us. If the GSB becomes an institution it could well be that some of us opt to focus energy on that.

Those doing ID's benefit from your conducting via the guidelines Tony - I think it would be useful to publicize it wider and not only on the CT journal, but not sure who follows the journal posts and fb feeds. A protocol beforehand for the organisers in the local nodes to be referred could be handy as well.

Better value, and less stress, to spread the intensity across both seasons?

Thanks, once again, Tony, for all the energy and effort you put in to making this event such a success.
And to take the Honours in all three categories is a tribute to your untiring vigilance and drive to keep us iNatters motivated and on the go.
Looking forward to what 2021 will offer

This time I took the back seat, and focussed on going out and having fun! All our results are due to you guys and gals and your enthusiasm and commitment. You should be patting yourselves on your backs - it is your achievement, your results and your success. I am just a small cog in a big team, where credit should go all those who made this come together. Many thanks everyone: i cannot claim any special credit for this achievement. Everyone performed magnificently.
Onwards to 2021!!!

And a huge Congratulations to Garden Route on an amazing result as well - with your 73 Observers you showed the world how it's done. May you go from strength to strength in future events such as this.
