This piece of the redwood tree is about 4 feet tall and black and it is the only part left of this tree from the 1964 fire. I found it very interesting that all the other trees around it grew more but this one was so dead that it just stayed still and didn't grow.

This reminded me of a Christmas tree, except it was red on the top and green on the bottom. It stood about 6 feet tall and there had once been an animal who rub itsef on the middle part of the tree because that part is bare with no leaves.
