In the field guides this species and its close relative, Karoo Long-billed Lark are separated by a straight line corresponding to the 24 degree latitude line. In the field this is not my experience with them. I have recorded Karoo Long-billed Lark 100 km to the east of that line. In true Karoo scrubland I have recorded Karoo Long-billed Lark and in grassland I have recorded Eastern Long-billed Lark. I Mountain Zebra NP where this one was recorded it is a mixture of grass and Karoo and not surprisingly birders have trouble IDing them because they sometimes tend to be half way between the two species. As is so often the case habitat determines where birds occur.

The leaves look like the ones in my book but the flowers are not a match. Not at all sure of this ID.
