7-24-19 Think this is a Jumping Bristletail. May be the same sp as what I've seen on Cliff-side rocks.

Each wood slat is 2cm across so this was a big one. It really JUMPED about. Caught it and tossed it outdoors. Next time I will chill one down and take more time taking fotos. Would like to see the underside and it's sweet little face.

LOTS & Lots of these butterflies and 'leaf-hoppers' at this spot this year.

Location: About parallel with the south end of Summer Bay Lake in a roadside Salmonberry patch.

Note: This was the 27th day of no rain, little to no wind and warm temps (60-80F or more in wind protected spots like this patch)

I think this may be the same species as the spider I posted 7-1-18.

I finally gave up trying for a face shot, because I didn't want it to jump on me like the one did last summer.

Rather beautiful when behind the lens and not on me.

9-3-13 Bristletail sp @ LSA Orange Cliff.

Was focused on the Jelly lichen (the dark ruffled/bubbly mass on the left of the foto) & DID NOT SEE the Bristletail until that evening when looking thru my images.

I was quite surprised to see something with large eyes looking back at me!

Today, while looking at this image I realized that there may be a moulted part of this Bristletail - or the shed part of another one - or even part of a dead bristletail, in this foto under this insect's tail.

Sure wish the foto had been focused on this creature and not the lichen and that I'd been paying attention :)

Oh, well. Next time...

8-6-18 Lichen is dessicated after a few weeks of very dry weather. This one is located with others snugged down in the scree @
'Arthur's Pharmacy' near a patch of female Salix rotundifolia. All are growing in an area disturbed by the Military during WWII. Area was blasted and excavated so it's likely that this lichen is 75 yrs old or less.

7-5-18 Gold Creek area (while Jason was in the lower Canyon hunting for plant sp)

This insect, a Bristletail sp (?) was on the sun-warmed rock wall facing Iliuliuk Bay. It emerged from under a clump of Tufted Saxifrage & moss I was taking fotos of and then zipped into a nearby rock crack. It later emerged so I was able to get several fotos. Have seen others like it on the rock face of the Orange Cliffs @ LSA/Arch Rock. No way to get size measure but it was considerably larger than any I have ever seen here before. Body was about 1cm from head - where antennae attach to where the tail begins.
