Little Brown Bat

Summary 2

Rare and declining. Almost identical to the Big Brown Bat but is smaller. One of the most easily identifiable bats, it is much smaller than most other species and this is usually apparent even in low light as long as there are other bats around for comparison. Beware confusion with Evening Bat, which is smaller in length but has a larger wingspan. Evening Bat is heavily restricted in range.

Habitat 3

In the summer roosts in trees and attics, seen foraging wherever there is large numbers of flying insects. Shows a preference for midges, mosquitoes, caddisflies and mayflies.

1.5-2", wingspan 8-10".
