The spring peeper (Pseudacris crucifer) is a small chorus frog widespread throughout the eastern United States and Canada. They are so called because of their chirping call that marks the beginning of spring.

Identification 7

Size: 0.75-1.25 in

Color: Pink, Gray, Tan, or Light Brown

Features: Dark X on their back (lighter on some frogs). Dark bars on the legs and head between the eyes. Plain cream-colored belly.

Sound: Warm Spring, Summer, and Fall these frogs can be heard. A high-pitched peeping call repeated about once a second.
