• Leaves/stem: leaves about ¼ inch long, lance-linear shaped, pointed at tip, bright green turning yellowish then light brown with age and eventually drop off, stems horizontally run above ground, erect shoots emerge at regular intervals and shoots are up to 4 inches tall
• Spores: single spike-like structures at shoot tips that are ½-1 ½ inches long and stalkless
• Fruiting season: July - October
• Height: 1-4 inches
• Habitat: bogs, marshes, shores, wetland edges, borrow pits
