Shape: Tree
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
Flower: elongated cluster – catkin, male; groups of 1-3, at tips of year old branches, 2 ¼-4 ½ inches long, female, on new lateral twigs, ¾-1 ½ inches long
Leaves: oval with pointed tip, 2-4 ½ inches long, 1 ¼-2 ½ inches wide, double toothed
Bark: yellow, thin, translucent, peeling in strips
Fruit/Seed: egg shaped cone-like cluster, green-brown, ¾-1 inch long
Height: 50-85 feet
Flowering: May
Habitat: hardwood forest
