The European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), also known as the western roe deer, is endemic to the W Palearctic and occurs throughout most of Europe except for Ireland, and the far east where it is replaced by Eastern roe deer. It also occurs in northern Anatolia and the Caucasus east to Iran. While the Roe deer has been displaced from some places where it used to occur (mostly heavily urbanised areas), its range is by far the most intact of all w Palearctic ungulates. Probably occurs in more than 95% of its original range.
