Large, common species in Southern California.

Can be separated from other species of the E. americanus complex by:

  1. Forewing with discosubmarginal cell bearing a cluster of closely interspaced hairs in anterodistal corner
  2. lower part of occipital (genal) carina joining hypostomal carina
