I did it! I recorded wildflowers on every road in my county. It took me 4 years and 11 months to explore 484 roadsides and I LOVED every minute of it. My finds have all been added to the project, ‘North Carolina Piedmont Roadside Native Plants’. If you do any roadside flower observations in the NC piedmont, please add them to this project. Thanks!
What’s next? I’m thinking I will return to every road and collect at least one specimen to send to herbariums. I learned to press plants for this purpose 2 years ago and have already collected plants from 134 roads in my county. I send specimens to the UNC Herbarium at Chapel Hill and the Mecklenburg County Herbarium at Reedy Creek Nature Center.
