Clarifications to Fulgorid taxonomic inaccuracies on FLOW with regards to the African species

FLOW is the primary database for Planthopper taxonomy and references but maintaining the accuracy of such a large database undoubtedly presents many challenges. While FLOW is a wonderful reference, in order to prevent confusion and the further propagation of inaccurate taxonomy I present here a list of taxonomic differences present in the literature but not yet reflected on FLOW with regard to the African species of Fulgoridae. Hopefully these changes will be reflected in future updates, and I also recommend that iNaturalist adopts these changes if they are agreeable.

May be of the mildest interest to @traianbertau and @beetledude ; perhaps no one else. And with thanks to Charles Bartlett for providing me with a copy of Lallemand 1959, which by my estimation is an exceptionally rare but very important paper.

Proposed changes:

Redundancy

• Remove Xosophara schroederi (Schmidt, 1906) (syn: Capenariana scheoederi, already listed)

Per Nast, 1977

• Druentia is a synonym of Pyrgoteles
• Druentia maculata is a synonym of Pyrgoteles cristatus
• Druentia variegata is a synonym of Pyrgoteles cristatus

Per Lallemand 1959

• Capenariana should be moved to Xosopharinae
• Novodictya punctata is a synonym of Calmar punctata
• Holodictya pudita is a misspelling of H. pudica
• Anecphora camerunensis is a form of Anecphora torrida
• Anecphora aurantiaca is a form of Anecphora torrida
• Anecphora minor is a form of Anecphora torrida
• Anecphora raatzbrockmanni is a synonym of Anecphora basisanguinea
• Anecphora angulosa is a form of A. torrida
• Anecphora sanguinisparsa is a synonym of Anecphora torrida

• Zanna natalensis is a synonym of Zanna tenebrosa
• Zanna noduligera is a synonym of Zanna pustulosa
• Zanna basibrunnea is a synonym of Zanna pustulosa
• Zanna wroughtoni is a synonym of Zanna pustulosa
• Zanna albipennis Spinola, 1839 is treated as a distinct species

Per Constant, 2014

• Pyrgoteles should be moved to Aphaeninae (not explicitly stated but the relationship between Belbina (Aphaeninae) and Druentia is discussed and the taxonomy is implied). This is the only proposed change listed here which is not explicit and as such its inclusion here may be controversial
