Thank you! I agree that the maps could be improved. However, this is not an issue I will be able to easily address until I’m home from field work next week.

@jeremyhussell @ash2016 sorry for the delay.

The taxonomic change was derived from the Mammal Diversity Database, who follow the recent study Colella et al. 2021. The geographic treatment of these taxa is expressed in Figure 4, as shown below.

I agree that there are matters that still need to be resolved, such as identify of the weasels in Greenland and neighboring Canadian landmasses, but the authors tentatively aligned these with the eastern clade in Figure 4 and I feel more comfortable following suite on iNaturalist.

What would be the preferred coarse of action?

I'm not sure what to do about Greenland and the Canadian arctic archipelago. Perhaps just add Baffin Island to the M. richardsonii range and remove Greenland and Prince Patrick Island? Either that or add everything to M. richardsonii until more becomes known.

Some detail work is needed in the islands off the coast of BC. Baranoff Island and Chichagof Island have been assigned to M. erminea. I think it's Admiralty Island which has the enclave, not them. Also, many smaller islands neighbouring Graham Island and Prince of Wales Island should be inside the range for M. haidarum.
