Beekeeper, amateur mycologist, and Master Gardener (Lenoir Co., NC), Since moving into our home near Kinston, NC I have been restoring our woodland and wetlands by manually removing invasive Privet and Japanese honeysuckle and controlling rapid growth of grape vine and Mulberry trees. An explosion of native ferns, (two types of orchids so far), forbs, shrubs and trees are quickly increasing the diversity of the ecosystem and support a healthy population of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and mammals. Of course, a couple of additional invasive species have moved in as well, but I'm working on those too. I am not trained in biology at all, so your assistance is greatly appreciated!
