Hey friends,
Had a BLAST with lots of great iNaturalist friends at the Big Thicket BioBlitz and I'm just about to go down to Conroe for the Master Naturalist conference, so I haven't been able to devote as much time to ID'ing. Don't fret -- after this weekend I'll get back into the routiene of ID'ing as many of the great observations coming out of TX.
After the bioblitz at the Big Thicket, I'm feeling more inspired than ever to spread the message of nature appreciation and this tool of engagement in iNaturalist. Sooner before later I'll toss some words together on a journal entry.

We have some serious discussing on where to have our next Texas iNaturalist outing. :)
It'd be fun to explore the Texarkana area... or Palo Pinto Mountains State Park... or the Valley... or the Big Thicket... or the Panhandle... or... Madagascar. :)

I just completed my upload of observations from our arrival day, October 13. I'm waiting on Simon to get concurrence from his "bioblitz team" to include that day. In the meantime, I have only 1300 more images to go through. Tomorrow, it's on to October 14 observations--a Big Day!
Thanks again for organizing this Sam! I had a great time and can't wait for the next trip.

Wow, really fabulous organizing, Sam! You said in your earlier post that Big Thicket had 263 iNat observations...and now it has over 4000! http://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=95110
If there are still many more observations to be posted (and I wouldn't be surprised if there are), you might pass Cabrillo National Monument, which was 4th in NPS (http://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=4715). This shows what a group of dedicated people can do. Did you get a head count?
@carrieseltzer I didn't really do much of organizing -- I just said, "Hey, let's meet down here!" Fortunately, there's such an active iNat population in TX. I think we had 29 folks total. @briang took a group shot, although there were a few missing from that (they were out exploring more!). :)
It was such a blast. Next time, you've got to come down, Carrie!
I still have a few hundred plants, etc., on the way from that weekend.
BTW, @sambiology and @briang, when/how will we get to see that group photo? Could you distribute a nice quality version from the group email list we were using?
Sam...you organized this trip, accept it. Or would you feel better if we said "coordinated" instead of "organized"? Or maybe you "facilitated this gathering". In any case, it was amazing and I'm glad I was able to make it out and hang out with some friends and make new ones. And...bugs.

@sambiology just ordered us to show up in the Big Thicket and we all did, like lemmings....Hey! Lemmings: That'll add another observation!
To all: I just got word from Simon (NPS BioBlitz team) that the official date for the Big Thicket BioBlitz has been rolled back to include Oct. 13, so if you made any observations in the Preserve on Thursday, be sure to get those uploaded as well.
...and don't forget that EVERYTHING from ALL National Park units counts in the service wide project! So upload it all :-) http://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2016-national-parks-bioblitz-nps-servicewide
