Very large, about 1.25-1.5" long, and fat
Mostly green grasshopper-shaped insect with some black mottling on the back and legs and a lighter underside. About one inch in length.
About 4 of these appeared in our backyard and feeder. They just don’t look quite like the house finches we normally get. The shape of the bill and whiteness of the breast led me to Cassin’s Finch.
Found under a rock in the park could only see the tail.
Deep wingbeats in flight. Large square head and gray cap above the eyes. Could not make out tail feathers.
