This sound came from fairly high in a large Douglas fir. It was surprisingly loud, given at several minute intervals for an hour or so in the late morning (shortened here for ease of listening). I assume this is some kind of arboreal rodent. No birds in the area make a sound like this (alarm calls of Catharus thrushes come kinda close, but it's not that). I've never heard this before, and would love to know what it is!

Over the last two years or so this daisy has taken over the Arboretum, spreading even in unirregated areas. It germinates in the fall and dies back around July, unless irrigated (irrigated plants seem perennial.) Trailing stems root as they creep. Distinctive woolly seeds are so prolific in early summer as to cover the ground like snow. The foliage does not have any particular scent.

Description

This is on old picture of a bug I found in the house I am currently living in. The bug is no longer alive and has been put in an indoor potted plant.
BLACK LADYBUG?
A little while ago I found this bug that looked visuals similar to a lady bug, but it was black with very faint brown spots. It has all the features of a lady bug including ability to fly, white spots on the face, size and shape the only difference was the color. I read an article saying that when a ladybug ages it’s wings can become black, but the bug did not seem to be old. In the picture the bug had dull black wings while the one I found had shiny black wings. I’d really appreciate it if someone could help identify it for I am confused on what this bug is. It looks similar to on ebony shield lady beetle but unlike those this one had the white spots on the face.
