Bald-faced Hornets built their nest around this boot thrown over a utility wire on a backroad near the Village of Howard

Flew down and landed on the screen. I quickly searched for the species so it could be with its kin ;-)

Including an awkward juvenile with no tailfeathers.

First time I've ever gotten a good look at one of these! Little guy was singing happily.

Territorial angel. Leucistic, massively cute, and possibly the most photographed bird in Santa Cruz EVER -- and now I know why. Note the white eyelashes!!! Awww.

I've never seen this behavior before. I thought it was a turtle at first glance. It stayed in this position until I had completely passed by, them emerged an flew toward the clutch observed nearby.

Had a smaller crest and slight red coloring with some grey patches. Tried my best to lighten the picture.

Really big specimen. Returned to the seagrass.

These guys had such good camouflage! Little brown birdie with black and white on the wing. Hopping around eating something on the ground.

Not sure what is going on but this is the fourth birder that I know of who has had a phoebe perch on their binoculars or on their person at Commons Ford.
