My nature education began with poking around with my mom in a creek above Devil's Gate Dam near the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA, finding water pennies under rocks shaded by sycamores! I studied biology (field biology concentration) in the late 70s, limnology in Uppsala Sweden for a year, and got a masters in environmental engineering at Stanford in 1983--which led to 20 years in the environmental regulatory and consulting world. In 2000, I finally harkened back to my love of natural history and have since worked as an educator/ecologist, since 2006 with Grassroots Ecology in Palo Alto, CA. I especially love California native plants and all things entomological!
