Help survey biodiversity at these sites, in the process of being proclaimed protected areas

Similar to nature reserves across the City, the sites listed in this project are those managed by eThekwini's Environment Dept. Ownership of these sites may be private, communal, or state-owned.

Data collected in each of these sites contribute to the assessment required to proclaim the site as a protected area. iNat observations as you enjoy being in our city's natural areas ensure that the site's species lists are constantly updated.

Here's a list of the sites from North to South of our city:
North: Havenside (Tongaat), Umdloti Dune, Redcliff (Verulam), Buffelsdraai (Verulam), Ngonweni, Inanda Mountain

Central: Calton Avenue (Westville), Sherwood, Queen Elizabeth Avenue (Glenwood)

???Pigeon Valley, Paradise Valle, Roosefontein

South: Van Riebeck Park (Bluff), St Geran (Bluff), kwaCele (Umlazi/Inwabi), Tafelkop (Mangangeni/Embo), San Gabriel (Kingsburgh), Widenham wetland

Nature Reserves and Open Spaces in Ethekwini

This project is to collect all the reserves and open spaces in Durban/Ethekwini.

Have a look near you and see which reserves and parks are in your area. Do they have decent records for plants, birds, butterflies, fungi and fish? If not, why not start a quest and try and get the lists up to stardard.

To see details of a particular park or reserve, just click on it on the summary bar (click on the bottom of the bar to see them all.) The map and current list will be displayed there.

Why not start by targetting those reserves with no records?: make a difference!
