Thank you!

Awesome job everyone! Thanks to all people participating, we were able to get a wide array of species added to the iNaturalist database on campus and around the county.

Big shoutout to prestontruett and kkeleher for getting first and second place in Most Observations and Most Species!!

Since this was the first time we held one of these events, we are open to comments and/or suggestions to make this even better for next year. You can message me through iNaturalist, or shoot me an email at ckwoffor@ncsu.edu

Thank you all again for helping make this happen, and I hope everyone had fun going out to ID different species!

Last Day!

We want to thank everyone so much for participating!

The project will close at midnight tonight, so there is still time for everyone to rack up some more IDs!

It has been really interesting to see the different taxa throughout and around campus. Normally I go out looking at trees, shrubs, and vines without regard to anything else, but ended up learning about a couple of insects when I was out IDing.

We plan on holding another BioBlitz next Fall with more prizes and more organization, so be on the lookout for that next year!

Day One

First, we want to thank everyone for joining the BioBlitz!

We have had a lot of awesome observations so far! iNaturalist is a great tool to use to identify species and can be really useful for people who want to learn more about what lives among us.

One of the main objectives of this project is to promote citizen science, as well as exploration and discovery. A secondary objective is to increase the amount and frequency of species' observations in the dataset, which will assist future users of this tool.

If you are uncertain about what you're identifying, don't fret! Use the suggestions to make your best guess, and a seasoned identifier will help you get to the correct ID..

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at ckwoffor@ncsu.edu

Take lots of pictures and don't forget to have fun!

How It Works

Download the iNaturalist app and take pictures of any plant, tree, animal, insect, spider, reptile, etc. and identify it or make a suggestion as to what you think it is. You can also take pictures with a camera and upload them to the iNaturalist website!

New to using iNaturalist? Here is a quick how-to page on how to make observations as well as what needs to be included. https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/getting+started#observations
