To record the sightings of carnivores and fur-bearing mammals in the Mono Basin along with sightings of other interesting species such as the Great Basin Gopher Snake. Trapping is allowed in the Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area. By collecting data on mammals that live in the Mono Basin, we can begin to build a case to request the Fish and Game Commission to eliminate trapping within its boundaries. We also might identify common wildlife crossings which might lead to requesting speed reductions and signage along Highway 395.
Please report on live sightings of fox, coyote, bobcat, mountain lion, bighorn sheep, bear, ringtail cat, badger, raccoon, skunk, opossum, beaver, weasel, marten, and snakes.
Leave out ungulates (other than bighorn sheep), squirrels, rodents, and rabbits.
Feel free to mention/include something that is unusual or is not thought to exist here i.e. a mink, muskrat, or wolverine.
Please tell us what direction the animal is heading, if it crosses a road, then which road in which direction. If you find a dead animal, also report that, but mention it is dead otherwise I will assume all the animals sighted are alive!
Thank you!
