Joshua Tree National Park Wildflower Watch uses citizen science to collect data about what flowers are blooming, where they are, and when they are seen each year.
Wildflower viewing is a popular activity in Joshua Tree. When the desert bursts into color, visitors come from around the world to experience the bloom. We invite you to help us document the diversity and beauty of the many plant species found here, in the transition zone between the Mojave and the Colorado Deserts.
Joshua Tree National Park has nearly 750 documented plant species, representing approximately 12% of the California flora and 33% of the taxa within the California desert region. The floristic richness of this area is greatly enhanced by the high percentage of annual plants, which represent 47% of the species total. 5% of the flora consists of summer annuals, or species that only respond to summer rains.
Wildflower Watch is an official project of Joshua Tree National Park. Learn more about the park from our website: www.nps.gov/jotr
