2 mountain lion kittens abandoned by mother die.

The male and female kittens, known as P-57 and P-58, were abandoned by their 3-year-old mother, known as P-42, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area posted on Facebook Monday.

Endangered vaquita marina porpoise could be extinct by 2018.

The vaquita marina, a tiny porpoise native to Mexico, could be extinct by next year if urgent action including a ban on gillnets is not taken, the World Wildlife Fund for Nature warned.

BORREGO BIGHORN SHEEP COUNT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS AND HELP RESTORING MAILING LIST AFTER DEATH OF RANGER BIER.

The 47th annual Anza Borrego bighorn sheep count is set for June 29th through July 1st, with a mandatory orientation on June 17th for all new counters and recommended for those who participated in the past.

New $80 million plan to preserve San Jose’s Coyote Valley.

Working to preserve key corridors for deer, mountain lions and other wildlife so they can roam and expand as Silicon Valley's population continues to grow, the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority and the Peninsula Open Space Trust on Thursday will unveil a long-range blueprint to link 1.1 million acres of open space in the Diablo Range and the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Little drummers of the Carrizo Plain.

Midnight was approaching and lots of nocturnal giant kangaroo rats were hopping out of the dense, tall grasses and onto the open road. It’s hard to imagine, but these unique little critters are vital to California’s remaining historic grasslands.

How a fear of humans affects the lives of California's mountain lions.

Pumas may be the top carnivores in much of California’s mountains, but there’s still one predator they fear above all else: humans.

When mountain lions hear the sound of human voices, they almost always flee, even if it means abandoning their prey, according to a new study from scientists at UC Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz Puma Project.
