Johnson's Hairstreak finally photographed

This species has not been seen on the SC since 2009 it appears. On June 27th at the Gray-Chapman Cross-over bridge 2, maybe 3, individuals were photographed and subsequently identified by others. This location is about 5km from the Irgens Creek area where it had been previously found in 2009.

Oregon Branded Skipper - new for Mainland BC

A review of old photos from 2017 suggested a possible Hesperia sp. not known to occur in BC except on Vanc. Island.
Photos taken July 6, 2020 confirm that Hesperia colorado oregonia has a mainland population at least in one location on the Sunshine Coast on Pender Hill. This is a species of special concern in BC with estimates of total BC population quoted to be low, possibly <1000 individuals. COSEWIC status is "endangered"
See link for more detail.

First record of Greater Arctic found and photographed by Rand Rudland in the grass and composite meadows atop Pender Hill (elevation 230 m.)
As this is a two-year life-cycle species, it will remain to be seen if there are any odd-year sightings this time next year.
