The project seeks to document the occurrence, distribution, and status of birds found within Joshua Tree National Park. Sightings reported through this project will add knowledge that will assist park managers, the birding community, and others interested in the avifauna of Joshua Tree National Park. The park covers nearly 800,000 acres and includes representative ecosystems of two of North America's desert: the Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert. The current park bird checklist includes more than 250 verified species plus over two dozen species that have been reported, but not verified, from the park.
