City Nature Challenge 2020 - Anacostia Biodiversity Data

The results are in! Despite relentlessly rainy weather, and being mindful of COVID-19 precautions, 197 intrepid observers recorded 2476 observations between April 24 and April 27, 2020. Thanks to the identification support of the iNaturalist community, 327 different species were assessed a research grade observations. Research grade observations are highly useful to scientists studying many aspects of the biodiversity of the Anacostia watershed.

Highlights of the unique species observed include four kinds of snakes (Dekay's Brownsnake, Eastern Garter Snake, Eastern Ratsnake, and Northern Watersnake); 57 different bird species; insects; fish; plants; and one member of the Mollusca taxon (Leopard slug).
