I am a marine biologist, educator and shark conservationist. As the Director of the non profit Shark Stewards, I have produced several documentaries on sharks and shark protection and am involved with anti shark finning and shark fin trade policy.
As a research associate at the California Academy of Sciences, I have been tagging and monitoring several San Francisco Bay shark species and this tool allows us to increase our network of observations to better understand the geographic and temporal distribution of elasmobranchs.

We developed the Shark watch program with a QR code as a community science effort to collect data on shark catch and underwater ID using the Wildme algorhitm. Shark Watch is also a great educational tool for the public to understand local species, but also helps us understand historical interactions and shark - human encounters along the California coastline, and the world.
