As an urban forester, I tend to look at plants and wildlife wherever I live, work, or vacation. I am passionate about sharing what is local to me and engaging with others about what's in their backyards and streetscapes. It's the reason why I started Washington Square Parks (WSP) Eco Projects. With the WSP Eco Projects organization, I develop virtual and on-the-ground opportunities for people to engage with nearby nature. The biggest benefit of my work is co-learning. I would describe researching, designing, and sharing environmental programs and content as a symbiotic process. This framework applies equally well to my work as editor of the Local Ecologist blog.
