Before moving to the UK from the country of my birth, Zimbabwe, I had an avid interest in African fauna, especially the collection and study of butterflies and moths.
I have a brother who is currently on a year-long contract in eastern Suriname, near the border with French Guiana. He is a keen photographer and also shares my interest in fauna, and flora to a lesser extent.
Whenever he can, he takes photos for me to identify, which I attempt to do by class, order, genus and species. We do not profess to be professionals, but derive tremendous enjoyment out of what has become a project.
Sources for identification of Surinamese fauna appear to be very limited. I have just discovered this website, so I am hoping that by signing up it will prove to be of mutual benefit to all. I welcome any assistance, and please bear with me as I find my way around this site.
