Yellow-faced Pocket Gopher Cratogeomys castanops

Observer

Date

September 9, 2019 04:52 PM CDT

Description

The structure, especially the head/mouth, and tail, identify this as a Gopher, with there being two possibilities for this location: Plains and Yellow-faced.
Plains has a cold gray-brown pelage, pale feet/legs, and is found in deep sandy soil areas.
Yellow-faced has a yellowish or reddish-brown pelage, dark legs/feet (but pale foot pads), and is found in general arable soils areas.
The features visible in these images all indicate Yellow-caed Gopher.
