Observador

motherofrays

Data

Descrição

Observed feeding.

According to Last et al. 2016 (Rays of the World) N. trigonoides is the only maskray observed in the GBR, but is described as having only two thick white bands on the tail and usually 1 caudal sting (p. 592). This little guy (~20-25cm dw) has multiple small white bands on the tail and 2 caudal stings. Perhaps a juvenile?

What

Raia-de-Cauda-Afiada-Pintada (Neotrygon caeruleopunctata)

Observador

motherofrays

Data

Março 15, 2018

Descrição

I identified this as Neotrygon caeruleopunctata (Last et al. 2016). This species doesn't seem to appear in iNat. I ID'd them as this species due to having a shorter tail and more banding on tail than expected for N. australiae. Didn't consider them to be N. orientalis as they had a small ventral fold on the tail, where N. orientalis has a longer ventral fold. Also didn't consider them to be N. kuhlii as they are characterised by less blue spots and are now considered only to be in the South Pacific.
