I'm thinking this has been regurgitated, rather than being scat. I expect it was a little owl.

I'm thinking this has been regurgitated, rather than being scat. I expect it was a little owl. It certainly liked insects. Bonus points if anyone can identify any of the insects here (I'm guessing the beetle elytra are Megadromus antarcticus and have added that as a separate observation. It looks like there are some wētā legs in here too.)

Caught at one of our sugar water feeders at 7:30 AM on 4 April, and accidentally brought inside when we were refilling the feeders. It met an untimely end in our freezer.

There must have been about a hundred korimako singing just at this one spot along the Port Hills Summit Road. It was amazing. I don't remember hearing quite this many singing at once before in the Port Hills.

There's still some life left in these tī kōuka/NZ cabbage trees but if the 2017 fire is any indication, they won't survive this much damage.

This is the same bird as I saw freshly killed yesterday, now just a pile of feathers. Something has eaten the carcass.
