Fruiting in nitrogen rich black soil/woodchip mulch. On the edges of cement lamppost base.
Fruiting bodies: pale brown/cream with heavily incurved cap margins(even at full maturity).
Cup interior: pale with four central extending lumps in most specimens, smooth.
Harvested 3 clusters of fruiting bodies with substrate attached.
Removed a small portion of tissue from two fruiting bodies(cup interior and margin).
Performed crush mount of removed tissue in Lugol’s solution and small droplet of KOH.
MICROSCOPY:
Spores: Large, elliptical, smooth. Eguttulate(spores lacking guttules/oil droplets).
Asci: 8 spored. Tips staining blue in Lugol’s solution.
Paraphyses: with enlarged, swollen tips.
Dehydrated all specimens thoroughly and bagged for herbarium collection/genetic record.

Fruiting beneath Pinus, Thuja plicata and Pseudotsuga menziesii.
Very large mature fruits(largest cap 10cm wide).
Cap: hygrophanous, extensively ruffled, scalloped margins. Umbonate with conic central disc.
Gills: appearing nearly free, notched/sinuate.
Stem: thick, vertically striate, metallic(like most all Nolanea).
Odor: not distinct.
Taste: slightly bitter.
Harvested 6 specimens.
Spore printed a single cap directly on a glass slide.(slide#1).
Removed a single gill and mounted on a separate slide in 3% KOH.(slide#2).
MICROSCOPY: see photos of work included.
Slide#2(gill mount):
Cheilocystidia: cylindrical, slightly irregular and often kinked or curved(some with small bubble like structures interior).
Pleurocystidia: small blunt, round.
Ejected spores: distinctly angular, 5-6 sided, medium large in size.
Lamellar Trama: cellular, subglobose to globose and densely layered.
Slide#1(spore printed slide):
Spore print: Pink.
Mounted spore printed slide in 3% KOH.
Spores: distinctly angular, 5-6 sided, medium large in size.
Dehydrated all specimens and bagged for herbarium collection/genetic record.

UPDATE on 3/15/24: removed thin layer of cap cuticle/tissue from one of the dried specimens and mounted on a slide in 3% KOH(crush mount).
Cap Cuticle Cells: encrusted with golden granules. Encrustations are golden yellow in KOH.
Pileipellis: a cutis. See shots of work included.

Hygrocybe aff. flavescens: sensu PNW
Single mature fruiting body beneath mature Pinus and Thuja plicata.
Cap: viscid. 6.8cm wide.
Stem: very thick, dry. Centrally pinched.
Odor: intensely of honey.
Harvested specimen.
Honey odor intensifying once home and reminiscent of beeswax/honey.
Thoroughly dehydrated specimen and bagged for herbarium collection/genetic record.
