These found in cavities of Soap Root (Chlorogalum) bulbs; appear to be some kind of weevil, judging from the snout (2nd photo)
This is a find for us, as late summer we often notice the Soap Root bulbs having been dug up. Every dug up bulb has evidence of holes, as if eaten by a large grub. We have never found a viable bulb dug up; only the tunneled ones. We think that some mammal can smell the grubs at work, and so target those bulbs for excavation.
Anybody know more about this??

On the inside of our kitchen window, looking outside. My only hesitation about this ID is that the narrow "thread waist" (connection between thorax and abdomen) is yellow and not black as in the iNat icon; also blotches of yellow on thorax.
