Field and Button Mushrooms Genus Agaricus

Observer

codfish

Date

April 24, 2019

Description

This Agaricus has a creamy-beige cap overlain with darker fibres and was fruiting under large mature broadleaf trees. The cap was up to 11.3 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height. The surface of the cap was fibrous with a distinct darker depression in the centre of the cap. The flesh of the cap did not noticeably stain when cut. There was slight yellow staining of the stipe when cut and most noticeable was yellow at the very base of the stipe if broken off when picking. The stipe is cream but was discolouring brown in these photos probably because of the wet conditions amongst the broadleaf litter. It was 9-13 mm with an expanded base but not distinctly bulbous on these mature fruit bodies. The ring on the stipe was positioned 1.5 to 2 cm down from the apex of the stipe and was flaring to pendant and detaching and falling off the stipe. Remnant mature coastal broadleaf forest.
