the plant is obviously mayapple, but my goal is to get insight on what chopped off a bunch of mayapple tops (leaving a ragged cut edge) and left them on the ground
at least 10 tops had been cut off and were sitting on ground wilting right next to their stalks
(people are an unlikely culprit, as they would have been trespassing)
